The Gainesville Police Department Citizens Police Academy gives members of the public a behind-the-scenes look at the department’s personnel, policies, and day-to-day operations. The free 30-hour program consists of one three-hour class each week for 10 weeks. Topics include communications and 911, patrol procedures, penal and traffic law, narcotics, gangs, criminal investigations, crime-scene investigation, demonstrations, tours, hands-on instruction, and an officer ride-along. Classes begin Thursday, August 6, 2026. The weekly meeting day and time have not been published, so applicants should contact the department for complete scheduling information.
